Vibration since Rear Main Seal replaced 850

Anyone have an ideal why my 95 850 GTA would start vibrating while in drive (automatic trans) and when the foot is on the brake? I did not have this issue before taking the car in for a rear main seal replacement (at the dealer $$$ ouch) and wondered if they put the thing back together incorrectly. it only makes the vibration noise while in drive and I notice it when at a stop and my foot is on the brake. I can't tell if the vibration is happening while moving.

The car is going back in for the fuel line recall next week and the delaer is going to look at the issue then. I'm wondering if I someone out there has heard this same vibration.

Thanks

Vibration since Rear Main Seal replaced 850

I'm having exactly the same symptom, so I'll be interested to hear what this turns out to be. Keep the board posted, if you don't mind. Thanks.

Vibration since Rear Main Seal replaced 850

I had a similar problem. My 850 began to vibrate at idle right after a rear main seal replacement. I took it back to the mechanic who went straight for the evap vacuum lines, and told me that he reverse two vacuum lines when putting it back together (the ones under the radiator). Fixed the problem on the spot. Hopefully your problem is caused by something that simple.

Vibration since Rear Main Seal replaced 850

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I hope it is as simple as vacuum lines. I'll certainly mention it to the dealer when he does the other work Wednesday. And if that is a fix I'll make sure to post in the forum.

Could this be worn out motor mounts?

Vibration since Rear Main Seal replaced 850

I have the final word from the shop after picking up the car the other night. Turns out the mechanic didn't torque the motor mounts properly. The mechanic at the dealer said he saw this as a possible cause after hearing the vibration/noise. The vibration seems to be gone since bringing the car home but I haven't really put many miles on it yet. It really is sad because I have been ti indi and dealer shops and they all seem to require multiple trips back to get the repair done correctly. If things are this bad with other makes I may just buy a Buick next time I buy a car because the local dealer is known as the best repair shop in the area.

Vibration since Rear Main Seal replaced.... shoddy work. 850

Shoddy work. They probably bent something when they dropped the tranny. Like the input shaft or torque converter flange. To change the rear seal correctly the entire transmission must be removed and clear from under the car. Some shops try to short cut it and end up damaging the tranny. You're pretty much screwed. They'll say they did the job right and if you want the vibration fixed it'll be another thousand bucks. It's one of the hassles with front wheel drive cars, you feel everything in the engine and driveline. It's even a bigger hassle when you take your car in for repairs and it comes out worse than when it went in. Typical dealer work.

        Your right........... 850

You got that right as is paint thinner to clean the garage floor or a piece of cardboard every now and then. I had a 740 with a leakin' rear main for at least 8 years. It will have to be one heck of a leak for me to fork out that kind of jack to pull an 850 tranny.
