Is there a quick and dirty method for checking the ball joints and tie rod on the Driver's side? The Pass. side feels tight through the steering wheel.

    I have a 98 V70 and had the same problem. My problem was a broken top strut mount. As I thought back I crossed an unknown intersection very fast(yellow light) only to find a significant dip on the other side that lifed me out of my seat. I attribute that to the broken strut mount. It made a really nasty sound over every speed bump.
    I am not sure that is your problem but it cured mine.
