Engine Oil leaks 850 1996

96 850 Turbo Wagon. I have owned my new baby for 2 months. My 93 245 isn't driven much anymore. The 850 is quite a step up. I need help with 2 issues.
There is a pool of oil under the car comming from the front of the engine. Cause? I can't see anything obvious and probably have to start removing stuff but would like a little direction. The other problem is the oil light is on despite a good oil level and oil pressure appears to be good as engine runs well? Ed

I just got my '95 854T back today after getting the front cam seal replaced along with all belts (including timing, tentioner etc. in area), the turbo pulley, rear main seal, and an engine mount. The cost was $1400. Yikes.

there is a cooler line connection and housing on the front of the engine under the crankpulley and oil pump. it could be leaking from the housing or the pipes coming out of it, they all use rubber orings. also check the turbo drainback tube seal and gasket it will look like its dripping off the drain plug but the leak is above it actually.

After installing a new oil cap seal, look for clogged breather tubes (the one going down from the oil cap and the other entering at the turbo input near the firewall). You may have a very high manifold pressure causing the oil to leak out at the dipstick also. Try removing the splash pan behind the front bumper for a few days, that will help you find out where the oil is dripping from, just remember that driving through puddles may cause the alternator belt to slip.

Do a search on PCT at the bottom of this page.

The RMS on the 850 is on the driver's side and requires an engine/tranny pull, not for the faint of heart. After the splash pan is off, wipe every thing down and drive it and check again for the leak. Front of engine is on the pass side and has a vacuum line running from the oil trap to the turbo, just under the intake manifold.

Don't curse tight places until you have looked at a A4Q with a 2.8L!!!

I had the same problem...turned out to be my oil cap gasket....a $2.55 fix.

Might be the RMS rear main seal leaking, which is common. Mine's leaking, too, though I'm trying to ignore it ;-).
The oil pressure sensor is on the block above the oil pan just ahead of the starter, I recall. these fail, but cleaning it up and reinstalling may revive it for awhile.

Let us know what you find.

I've been kind of busy, just got to it today. Looks like RMS. Any Idea how hard it is to replace? Do it yourself of shop job only?
Oil press sensor was replaced. Prob wiring. Is the an oil level sensor? Thanks Ed
