Can't get the old antenna out!! S70 1998

I got the replacement antenna mast from FCP Grotonbeacuse mine stopped going up. When I unscrew the nut, the mast won't pull out! Help! What am I missing??

PBBlaster to the rescue. Spray some penetrating oil into the chrome parts. Then take a pair of regular pliers and hold onto the mast under the ball tip and hit up with a hammer. Turn the radio on before you do this to cover any @#$^% you make.
