Help me test Irish fan relay (pic inside) 850 1996

Hi,

I just emptied a massive amount of water out of my air pump. I am getting a used pump and the SAS-valve from a junk yard.I wont be getting the relay though. It sits on the bracket that holds the pump and looks like it may be shot. Now to my question. How would I go about testing this relay with a 12 V battery and a multimeter? I have not seen this type before with only three terminals (labelled 2out, 1 and 30). I simply can't figure out how it works. Any input appreciated.

Best regards
Johan

PS. Yes, it's made in Ireland of all places.

Go to RadioShack and get some electric contact cleaner, and some dielectric grease. Those leads look really bad and the plug is probably just as dirty. Then you next job will be to clean every plug you see in the engine bay.
    Good luck,
    Klaus

Well, that can't be too tough. The 30 is a blu-red wire right from the battery, the out is a blue wire right to the blower and the 1 is the ground or control side of the relay. The Motronic control unit will ground the blue-pink lead at terminal one, this will close the relay and current will flow right from the battery,, through the relay, through the motor and to ground. With the two big wires hooked up you should be able to run a ground to the pole for the little wire and the relay should close.

      Got it.
      Thanks for outlining the procedure.
Did some tests and it seems to be non-functional.

If it is not working I'd try the relay before paying for an airpump.

That makes sense but I'm pretty sure my pump is wasted. As I mentioned in my initial post I poured almost a litre of water out of the plastic pump housing. The electric motor must have been totally submerged for some time. I can't imagine it would ever work properly again.

          Cheers
          /Johan
