Tie Rod Ends, End Links - Clunking/Klanking V70-XC70 1999

Hello BB'ers, Happy Mother's Day. My V-70 is klanking/clunking at 78K.

I have a bad left tie rod end and a bad right sway bar end link. Just a few questions.

1. Is there anything dicey about replacement. I've just recently done these on my 93 240.

2. Should I replace both tie rod ends and both end links.

3. Would you provide recommendations for parts, and maybe more importantly parts to stay away from.

Thanks much,

Marty Wolfson

    Tie Rod Ends, End Links - Clunking/Klanking V70-XC70 1999

Marty, I would not doubt that you could have bad link rods and tie rod ends but make sure you check the spring seats for the front struts. They tend to make way more noise than the link and tie rods. If you can find someone that stocks Meyle or Lemforder brand you will do allright. I am not real fond of Scantech parts. They look pretty good when you put them on but they do not seem to hold up as well. I have used TRW and Moog in the past as well and they are good parts to go with as well.

      Tie Rod Ends, End Links - Clunking/Klanking V70-XC70 1999

      Hello Mark

Thanks for responding. Not much traffic on this V70 board. How would I check the spring seats for the struts?

I know I have a bad left tie rod end, cause there's lots of play. Same goes for the right end link. Should I replace both sides of each?

      Thanks for your help.

I think the anti-roll (sway) bar links are a known issue on the V70 - change both as they're cheap and easy. As for the tie rod, just do the one unless the other is suspect too - you don't want to pay for alignment twice. Again, easy job. Regards.
