Ever had a problem filling up the gas tank? V70-XC70 2001

Went to fill up my T5 the other day. It was almost empty. When I turned on the nozzle and set it for auto cutoff, it cut off like the tank was full after only adding a gallon of gas. It did this several times. I turned the ignition on and off and it took gas OK. I have never had this happen. Any ideas why it happened?

Well, I doubt this had anything to do with your car. Sounds like a crappy pump! I've had that problem with some gas stations.

It's the economic disaster forecast module; when a full tank will approach the remaining salvage value of the vehicle, the pump shuts off to make you think about whether you have enough credit to both buy groceries and finish the fillup.

This happens to me too. I don't know what causes it, but like another poster suggested, lift out the nozzle just a bit, start the gas flowing slowly for a couple of seconds and then go full throttle on the pump handle and you should be fine.

This sometimes happens to me...I lift the gas nozzle up (or out) a bit and I'm okay again.

I do the same thing.

My guess is that the fill pipe design causes fuel to splash back and strike the contact that switches off the pump when the tank is actually full.

I''ve noticed that the newer pumps seem to be more sensitive.

On a totally different subject. The local Sunoco sold 93 octane for $2.37 a gallon, but 94 octane for $2.25. Huh?

Anyway, the turbine sings with the higher octane.

I bought 93 for $2.17 yesterday. I hope gas keeps coming down. Regular was $1.97 and plus was $2.07, and thas was for Chevron!

On yet a separate note, 2 of the last 5 times I've filled up the gas lid wouldn't release and I had to go in through the trunk. It appears that the latch releases but the spring isn't strong enough to push the latch out. I've recently cut my finger nails so I don't have a way to pry the lid open. If I pull the latch from the inside of the trunk, and hold it at the open position, then the lid pops open. Any suggestions? It's an intermittent problem...maybe has to do with temperature...seems in the morning when cooler it has a harder time opening.

MIJ,

Are you referring to the S70?

It probably is the spring on the door. Check the archives.

I think there is a problem with a plastic retainer breaking and causing the spring to lose tension.

Good luck,
Bryan

Always - 1998 s70 GLT - it seems to vary by station - I'm not sure that it matters by brand of gas (implying that maybe it's particular equipment, used by a particular chain).
