Questions about airflow

I cleaned my EGR orifice today, and while I was following Bay13's excellent resource for this I came up with a few questions. The large hose that connects to the throttle body has another smaller hose that tees into it from - I think the idle air pump. On Bay13's page the large hose has been removed and the smaller hose is hanging in mid air. I tried hard to pull the smaller hose's end out so I could get the large one out of the picture, but they seemed to be one and the same (glued?). Bay13's hose is nice and clean and appears to have come off a fitting, while mine protrudes into the large hose and is covered with oil gunk. Just curious if anyone knows if that smaller hose pulls out. My second question is about the clamps that are on some of the aprroximately 1" hoses around the idle air pump. They don't appear to be reusable, and there aren't any screws. There is what appears to be a deep crimp in them, and three teeth that engage slots. Sure looks like a special tool installed them. I am asking because I wanted to remove one of these hoses to make my life easier. My third and last question is about overall airflow on the 850 turbo. It appears air leaves the air cleaner and heads towards the back of the engine, near the exhaust. The large hose to the TB does not come from the air cleaner but rather connects to the shroud above the radiator. I am an idiot because I expected the air cleaner to feed air into the throttle body. Can someone explain the basics or point me to where I can find them? As always, thanks for any advice. Don 854T

    Questions about airflow

    1) I have no idea. Give it a good pull for me.

    2) Buy some nice hose clamps that are the right size and you can throw the other clamps away. You really need the right crimping tool to be able to use them.

    3) Your car is a turbo. That means that the air from the airbox goes to a turbine which is powered by the exhaust and the air is force-fed to the throttle body.

      Thanks for your response. Doh, I should have realized why the air was headed for the exhaust area. As far as pulling the hose out, I pulled very hard, twisted, and pried as hard as I dared witout damaging the hose. Mine seems like the elbow is sealed, but it is very possible it is just stuck. Have never sen clamps like those - maybe dealer service put them on. Thanks again.

        You must have read my mind today! I too was looking at that air hose and trying to figure out why it is coming from the radiator. Guess I will have to follow it back to the turbo charger, some how.
        Those clamps cannot be reused. Just buy some screw down clamps at the hardware store and use those, there is no pressure to worry about.
        Sorry, I can't help with the air pump hose. Haven't gotton that far yet.
