I am planning to replace the factory speakers in my 96 855, and all the advice I see on this board is for 850 sedans. I hope to use the factory Hu, wires, and mounting locations. I have the following questions:
-Are there any factory 6x9" speaker holes in the wagon? I haven't found any.

-Can I mount 6.5" speakers in the rear door panel? Will this give me any more bass?

-Can I put tweeters in the dash locations? Will that help the sound.

-I had planned to put tweeters in the dash, 5.25" in the front doors, and 6.5" in the rear doors. Has anyone out there tried this setup? I am a n00b to Volvos and car audio, and need all the help I can get. thanks in advance.

My advice is to remove the speakers, label them, and take them to your audio dealer before purchasing the replacements. You stock speakers are Alpine and are actually of very good quality. The small ones in the rear roof pillars are a bugger to get out and may require that you purchase a new set of retainers for the pillars cause they frequently break during removal. Also, be very careful removing the grilles from the rear passenger doors since it is common that you will bust off the centre-mount tweeters from the base cone assembly.
Unfortunately, if you want more bass than what is now in the car, just about any 5" to 6" won't give you much more than what you now have and your looking at upgrading you amp and putting in one of those very annoying "kickers".

I own a 94 855 wagon and I am looking at replacing the standard speakers in my front and rear doors. The majority of suggestion on speaker compatibillity is 5.25 for the front and rear , as the bigger size will interfere with the window operation.When I replace mine I am only installing 5.25's.
