ABS Unit not covered under extended waranty V70-XC70 1998

I was a bit disturbed a few years back when I purchased my used 1998 XC wagon from a Volvo dealer along with a Volvo extended waranty. About a year later, the ABS lights started coming on, and the dealer diagnosed it as a bad ABS unit. He also informed me that the problem WAS NOT covered by the extended waranty I had purchased. Well I drove it for a while with the problem, not wanting to shell out the thousand plus they estimated to fix it. I want to say how pleased I was when I found information from Victor Rocha (http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/) and his service to repair ABS units. The repair was easy, turn around time was excellent, and the price was a fraction of what the dealer wanted.

This is clearly a Volvo defect. The same thing happened on my S80, but since I owned it under a new car purchase waranty, it was relaced by the dealer. I vote for a class action against Volvo to get them to recall and repair these units.

ABS Unit not covered under extended waranty V70-XC70 2000

We have a 2000 XC that the ABS unit went out on last summer. Volvo replaced it no questions or problems. We purchased the vehicle new and then the extended warranty from Volvo before we reached 50,000 miles.

ABS Unit not covered under extended waranty -- Volvo VIP warranty or 3rd party warranty? V70-XC70 1998

This has been going on for years and years, it's recommended that you file a complaint with the NHTSA Click HERE but I think that Folvo's basic argument must be that there are plenty of cars and trucks on the road that don't have ABS and they're not unsafe.

The only thing that's happened over the years is that a lot of Volvos have been traded in on Honda and Toyota products.

And I wouldn't touch Ford Motor Company's common stock with tweezers.

ABS Unit not covered under extended waranty -- Volvo VIP warranty or 3rd party warranty? V70-XC70 1998

I could understand a 3rd party warranty, but this was the Volvo VIP ?

I have done exactly what you predicted, trading it in for a Toyota :)

Volvo VIP V70-XC70 1998

VIP "Volvo Increased Protection" was/is the one sold by Volvo NA.

http://www.volvocars.com.sg/Showroom/XC70/WarrantyRS/VIP.htm

It has "Volvo" and "Volvo VIP" printed all over it.

It was actually underwritten by some insurance company or another and had standard fine-print legalese boilerplate. Oddly, a lot of stuff was relevant to an extended warranty on a 1955 Chevrolet but not to a modern car. And certainly not a Volvo. You actually need to read the find print to see what's covered and what's not covered. My experience was that the warranty company isn't even very familiar with the provisions and once I was on the phone with them arguing that something that they claimed wasn't covered was clearly covered, in print, under the written warranty!

Caveat emptor!

And.... DO file a complaint with NHTSA! V70-XC70 1998

Maybe the sheer weight of the complaints will do something!
