Throttle Module Identification V70-XC70 2002

Fellow Bricksters,

I am currently looking at purchasing a V70 2002 model (build date May 02'). However my main concern is the electronic throttle module and the issues that have been raised multiple times on this site and also volvoxc.com (very concerning some of the comments I must say). I have read that the 2002 model came with the updated Throttle Module, is this correct? Price is a bit on the high side so I would be really annoyed if I purchased this car and had the Throttle Module unit give up quickly.

Other alternative this dealer has two other cars one a 2000 turbo model and the other a non turbo SE both at very reasonbale prices. I would be able to purchase any of the two cars above and still have money set aside for the worst case scenario of replacing the TM unit (which I believe is $1000). All three cars have reasonble mileage (60,000) and decent service records especially the non turbo 2000 SE. All cars will come with no warranty as I live in Australia and these are at an auction site that sells ex lease/government cars so I have to be very careful. I will only buy if they have good service records.

Therefore I would appreciate any feedback on what to look for. I am tending to lean towards the 2000 cars and factor in a replacement TM, is there any real difference betwwen an 2000 qnd 2002 model????

Thanking Everyone in advance.

Although the potential is there for the '02 and above ETM's to wear out prematurely, we haven't heard of that many of them doing that. It was the '99-'00 and some '01's that were BIG concerns, so I'd say you're good to go with an '02.

Just my 2cents, but if given the choice (and all service records are good) and you can afford the choice, always go with the newer car. Especially in this case, it's between a '00 and a '02...there really isn't a choice at all due to the ETM. I personally avoided the '99 and '00 models by buying a '98 and the only reason for this was the ETM.
