tailgate dampeners V70-XC70 1998

Hello again,
I believe that my tailgate closes without enough resistance causing my inside panel to continually pop loose. I've replaced the clips on the panel once.... it looks like I may do that again... but I need advice on the dampeners. How do I know they are failing to the point of needing replaced, and, how do I replace them.

As always, I appreciate your opinions.

The liftgate will sag a bit especially in cool weather, then eventually droop and fall. If one strut is bad, replace both. How to do it is on Bay13. It is easy and safe to do in about 10-15 minutes IF you have a 2nd person to support and hyperextend the liftgate a little so the struts are completely off-loaded during removal/reinstall. The gate is surprising heavy. If it slipped with no struts mounted you might stand to lose a finger or hand.
