Coolant level warning light is wrong! V70-XC70 1999

The coolant level warning light went on in my 1999 V70. But there was plenty of coolant in the resevoir. I topped it off anyway, but the warning light is still on. The engine temperature has not gone up. Why would the warning ligth stay on? Can I fix it myself? Thanks, all.

    The low coolant light will come on with only a slightly low coolant level. It will go off when the coolant gets warm enough to start circulating. Your coolant could indeed be low. When my low coolant sensor failed, under warranty, they replaced the whole tank, saying that the sensor was not available by itslef. I do not know if that is still the case. Now that my car is out of warranty, if the sensor fails again, it gets disconnected. I have been capable of checking my own coolant since I started driving back in 1964.

    The coolant level sensor has been known to fail. You can do it yourself, but not certain, if you need just the sensor or the entire tank. Call the dealership and find out what they say.

      Thanks for responding. After driving for about 5 minutes this morning, the light went off.

    Is there any other warning light connector which could have been plugged into the coolant reservoir, and vice versa, by mistake? (Happened to me once on a Benz; luckily the problem was low windshield fluid reservoir, and not the problem that was indicated by the dash light)
