oil pump seal and/or front crankshaft seal??? 850 1997

Greetings,
After removing the timing belt pulley, I see a seal that is leaking. It is about 2 inches across. Is this the oil pump seal or the front crankseal? If this is where I find an oil leak, do I need to go further and remove the oil pump, or what?
I tell you, this timing belt change has sure turned into more that I wanted to do. I really hope I can get all this back together.

Ideas and suggestions would sure be great right now.

Thanks,
Stuart

You are looking at the front crank seal which is also one of the oil pump seals. Volvo sells a kit that has the all of the oil pump seals in it, the O ring the seal you are looking at and the paper gasket that goes behind the pump. It sounds like yours is leaking and needs to be replaced. You will need a harmonic balance puller to pull the crank gear in order to get the oil pump out of there, otherwise you might want to consider just replacing the front crank seal. Should you decide to pull the oil pump e-mail me and I will go further into detail on it. It is not that tough to do but you will need a little guidance if you have never done one and you already consider this timing belt job to be a bit of a nightmare.
