service light is on? 850

I think that the service light has come on because it was time to change the oil, did that. No how do I get the light to go out? I knew how to do it with the 940 but how is it done in a 850?

thanks

get yourself a Haynes 850 service manual. instructions on how to reset your service light with a jumper wire inserted into one of the connector blocks can be found in it. I used to reset mine but now ignore it as it goes out anyway and I change my oil at 3k.

For model years '96-'98 there is no connection box like on '95 and earlier models, thus there are no jumper cables to turn off ANYTHING. Yes, I used to do that with our '94 850 too, but not with my S70 now...nor with '96 and '97 850's.

Good luck!

I am on very friendly terms with my dealer, so he will turn it off for free. I agree, pull the bulb the next time you have the instrument panel out.

ON the 96-97 850's you need a $175. reset tool (what a crock) or pay someone with one $30.+ to reset it. Couple low tech, much cheaper methods (1) remove the bulb (2) get a roll of black electricians tape from Home Depot, cut a small square and stick it over the light.

If you want to buy a reset tool for that, look on eBay. I bought mine for about $65, shipped. For some reason they are only from England so you'll have to pay and wait for shipping from there. Just look for "Draper" (the maker) and you'll find them. Here's an example of one being sold on eBay now: http://cgi.ebay.com/Volvo-Service-Light-Reset-Tool-NEW_W0QQitemZ4569619666QQcategoryZ10432QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Otherwise, the suggestions here are all valid ones. The SRI light serves no purpose but to remind you to change your oil and is useless...just one more way for the dealer to take your $$.
