Chirping sound from the engine

Lifted the hood on my 97R wagon and heard this bird chirping sound coming from what sounded like the alternator/A/C pump area or, the valve cover. Couldn't tell. The sound is like a bird sitting on your shoulder chirping in your ear. If you increase the rpm's it increases. Sounds like something related to the engine. Is this serious? The engine has Castrol's 10/30 synthetic in it. I first noticed the sound about two or three weeks ago, and it seems to be becoming more pronounced as time passes. Any ideas appreciated. Dick

Check the plastic cover for the T and serpentine belts, it may be rubbing. Actually, take the cover off and start the car. If the noise is gone, inspect the cover and see if there is a rub mark. If not, you will be better able to see what is making the noise.

Hi Klaus! Hadn't thought of that one. Knock on wood that that's the cause. Will check it out when I get back to Oregon. At the moment I'm sitting up here in northern Idaho. Thanks for that one. Dick
