Well my tranny arrow has been flashing from some time now and check engine light is on,(leaving it impossible for the car to passs the Texas state inspection, if CE light is on it is a automatic no pass, regardless of why the light is on) and the car seems to slip slightly sometimes and will shift from 1st to 2nd right off the line on occassion. I have done the research into the solenoid replacement, the solenoids are hard to source, I did find them one place for about 95.00 each, and from what i have read, you might as well replace them replace them all there are 4 total, one controls the tourque convertor lock up. and the rest control the shifting between gears. there is also a gasket to replace when the side/top cover is removed to gain access to the solenoids, taking all of this into acount and looking at a band aid fix of over 400.00 to replace the solenoids in a 150K mile transmission, I opted to replace the tranny what i hope is a good used unit (supposedly from a 1996 850 turbo) for 500.00 w/ a 30 day warrenty. This will cost me about 1000.00 with labor, fluid change and removal and installation and i hope to get some good years of use from the used tranny.

this could be a gamble but i am betting 1000.00 swap against a total rebuild of close to 3000.00.

the car was dropped off today at the tranny shop and should be ready for pick up tomorrow afternoon. I will keep you posted to see if this corrects the problem.
