Stopped by a Volvo dealer in New Jersey today just before lunchtime to pick up a new cap for my windshield washer reservoir. As I came outside, I noticed a guy looking at my car. Turned out he was a salesman from the dealership. We started chatting, and he asked me if I was interested in a ride in a new car... (he didn't say which one) but it took me about a microsecond to agree. My face must have lit up, so he threw me a set of keys and said "let's go". I stood there kinda looking around, not knowing which car to head for... he pointed to a red 2006 S60R with a black interior .... :)
300 HP, AWD, 6 speed manual tranny, sunroof, navigation system, and the list went on and on for two pages... fully loaded, to say the least (also stickered just below $40K).
I tootled around for a few minutes, and he said "aren't you gonna let it out"? This thing had 12 miles on the clock!!! I was treating it like, well, someone else's car. He explained that it had been badly damaged during transport, repaired, and therefore would never be sold as a new car, just a demo model. An offer like that didn't have to be made twice.
Took it up into the hills in Franklin Lakes.
All I can say is, if anyone has a chance to get behind the wheel of one of these beasties, jump on the opportunity.
