I have a 98 v70 awd with about 77k miles. My local mechanic, whom I trust, tells me that I need a new air pump (and some sort of valve that keeps water out of the air pump) and new brake cables. The air pump and valve are expensive parts, but only an hour labor (about $550 total estimate), as is the Right front axle (I am told a bearing is worn and the bearing alone cannot be replaced-- estimate $550). The parking brake cables (I guess there are two) are only about $50 (each cable) for parts, but he estimated about three hours labor at 60$ an hour.
My question is whether these are do-it-yourself projects for someone who can do my own brakes, oil changes, filters, etc. Thanks!
