Resetting clock/temp 850 1996

I had to remove the battery cable recently when replacing my oxygen sensor, and the clock and temp are now stuck in 24-hour time and Celsius, when what we'd like is 12-hour time and Fahrenheit. Following the manual's instructions to push the hour and minute buttons together has no effect. Am I doing something wrong, or do I need to go to the dealer to get it reset?
