Hi folks,
I got a pesky problem that two mechanics so far haven't fixed. My '95 850 Turbo wagon we got this summer for my daughter to drive to the local college won't start in the cooler mornings of autumn. It would make one try to turn over, then cut. I towed it to the local Volvo dealer. He replaced the oxy sensors and put in new sparks and wires. It drove home. The weather warmed. Life was great. Volvo recommended we change the original timing belt. I took it to a collegues' husband who's starting a new business, and he replaced the timing belt and suggested the water pump, too. Made sense. But the next morning - no start! He then replaced the new plugs and wires! (Busy, I forgot to say they were already replaced. He should've been able to know - but, that's a different matter.) Drove it home. Life was great again. Til the next cooler morning. No start. I thought maybe it's something simple. I figured it might be the fuel filter. So to save 50 bucks, I tried to replace it. The original looked suspect, but as I am now discovering, messing with anything on this car is risky. I broke the leads to and from the filter - another trip to Volvo. And it started. And life again was good. Until yesterday. Cold snap. Volvo does it's thing. I'm ruling out a third tune up! It seems both mechanics wanna try a lot of things, all of which costs me a lot of money. Anybody out there have any thoughts? Much thanks for reading this. I wish I knew more about cars.
