Vanity mirror lights on visors C70

I just took my '01 C70 HPT in for its first check up and service since I bought the car last month. Overall, not too bad, needed cabin and engine air filters, new spark plugs and rotors, front and back turned plus new brake pads, front and rear.

However, there was one issue that the mechanic noticed that still need to be addressed.

The lights under the sun visors for the vanity mirrors only work intermittantly and do not work very often when the mirror cover is slid open or when the visor is pulled down to expose the light. My mechanic said that this is a common problem on C70s and that the only real way to correct this is to purchase new visors @ $160 each. Does anyone know how to repair this problem short of replacing the visors? I understand that it may be possible to rewire the area where the wiring has been pinched and broken. I would like to know if anyone has actually done this and if so, how did you go about it?
Many thanks to all who respond. Fred.
