Hello,

My brother's looking to buy an 850 and I wanted to make sure it'd be worth his while.

His budget: $6000 US.

This would be the first FWD Volvo either of us has owned. Coming from the 240, 740, and 760, expectations are pretty high when it comes to reliability/cost of maintenence.

Big questions: How reliable are these cars? What are some major problems with the 97/older models (as it seems those are the only ones as cheap as $6000)? How much can he expect to spend on preventive maintenence? What should he look for when buying?
