I'm the second owner of a 1998 V70 AWDR with stock 16" rims. I would like to replace them with 17" rims. I get conflicting info from dealerships stating I can and I can't. TireRack says I can and some people I've talked to say I can't because of the rim/tire combination rubbing inside the wheelwell or scraping against internal steering parts. I would appreciate thoughts/advice on replacing them before going ahead. I would be buying Volvo rims they recommend(as V70 only - no mention of an awd system). Questions: 1. Would I be creating future problems on the drive system down the road if I replaced them? 2. Any suggestions on the lowest/widest profile tire that would suit for some comfort without giving up sporty feel and grip.
3. Why wouldn't have Volvo put 17"s on this particular model as standard equipment or wher they an option?
I would appreciate your comments-thank you; ldodsworth@rogers.com
