I recently bought a 2002 V70, front wheel drive, non turbo, and it did not have a plastic cover under the engine...just five empty screw holes in the chassis. In my Vadis software for a 2002 V70 it shows a picture of a "splashguard under the engine" (with about five screw attachments), and for changing the oil filter Vadis says: first "remove the lower splash guard". Ostensibly, the Volvo dealer who sold me the car has ordered a new splash guard for me and will install it later this week. But i have a friend with a 2004 V70 who says his dealer claims his 2004 was not sold with a splash guard. Please tell me if any of you have a 2002 with a splash guard hiding the oil filter (or if you have a 2004 with one). Thanks.
