Extended warranties V70-XC70

I have an '02 V70 (2.4, manual trans, 49,000km/30,500mi) soon to come off warranty & I am considering purchasing an extended warranty. I have only had one thing come up under warranty - had to have a key replaced, as the rubber coating concealing the immobilizer chip had disintegrated over time. Other than that, it has behaved flawlessly.

Is the Volvo VIP (or some other plan) worth the money? Am I to expect a lot of mechanical issues (or several large ones) over the next few years?
