1998 V70 Windshield Washer Reservoir Low Level Indicator Light

As the level in my reservoir dropped due to usage, the instrument panel amber light would illuminate when I accelerated, then extinguish. That made sense.

After a few more windshield washings, the amber light remained illuminated. That made sense.

I finally got around to dumping a gallon of washer fluid into the reservoir. The amber light did not extinguish. That does NOT make sense.

Can anybody make some sense of this???
