At about 104K miles and 11 years of age- my original plastic handle on my dipstick decided to break off from the metal portion (luckily all was retrievable from the tube).
I did a search here and wanted set the record straight on any potential confusion on the subject.
The original part number engraved on the dipstick was # 3528064.
The new correct dipstick Volvo part number is # 9497557.
Here's the kicker- the replacement dipstick is about 1.5 inches longer than the original dipstick.
Thus- the dipstick tube (with o-ring) must also be replaced with a longer one to offset the longer new dipstick.
Here are the parts required :
#9497550 : Dipstick Pipe
#418360 : O-Ring for Dipstick Pipe
#9497557 : Oil Dipstick
Installation is simple - just remove the one bold holding the original tube at the intake manifold and lift the old diptick pipe out.
Installation is the reverse.
Tip: I oiled the the new o-ring on the dipstick tube prior to installation. It leaked/seped oil when the engine was running.
My solution - removed , cleaned up everything, and re-installed with some Mobil 1 greas I had laying around and 4 days later leak free ( any grease should do).
My indy tells me this dipstick failure is common and he was good enough to procure the parts for me. Beware, my local Volvo dealer parts counter was not aware of the change up in the dipstick lengths and part numbers. Luckily, I knew from reading prior posts here - and saved some aggravation by calling my Indy who knew right away and got me "all" the right parts. Thenew dipstick has 2 o-rings which provides a better seal to the tube designed to help the PCV system.
BTW- I subsequently fixed my original dipstick handle with JB Weld. I have it along with the diptick tube and o-ring. If anyone needs - I can part with for a small price plus shippping. Just PM me.
