Hi all-
I am new to the 850 world and am working hard at getting to know the newer car. I have an extensive background with the 240's and am an extreme DYI'er.
The car is a 1996 850 wagon n/a. It runs great with only 95K miles. Recently I thought I smelled oil, so I popped the hood to see oil on the spark plug cover. It wasn’t a lot; just enough to sheen the top and pool in the letters. And it was obvious it was coming from the oil cap. I wiped it down and carried on with my business. The problem occurred again about 5 days later. I replaced the cap gasket, thinking it was old and loose (and it was)...but the problem is still there. It is very inconsistent and only does it about once a week (I check every night). It has the same characteristics as a clogged flame trap on a 240. Like excessive crank case pressure. As I understand it, the 850 doesn’t have a flam trap so Do I need to clean the breather box below the manifold? Or are there any other leads that I should be following.
thanks
Ryan
