AWD vibration/center bearing? V70-XC70 1998

I noticed a vibration on my girlfriend awd v70 wagon this morning. Worse on acceleration....notnoticable once up to speed. Does not seem like it's got anything to do with the front wheels or front drive train. Could this be the famaous "center bearing" issue I've read about? How much to fix if it is? Can this be done by an experienced do it yourselfer? Are there instructions anywhere on the web?
