upgrade? 850

I currently drive a 94 850 sedan with around 160k miles on it. I am considering repalcing it with a 98-01 V70. I have been leaning towards a 01 V70 2.4T. My question is how do these cars compare as far as quality and reliability to the old 850? Also, what year did Ford take over, and has the quality suffered as a result?
