850 Fuel Pump? 850

1994 Volvo 850 Wagon - NA 160K on the clock
Driving from Des Moines to Minneapolis this weekend and
3 hours into the drive the engine dies, car coasts to a stop.
Turn the engine over and it would not start.
Checked for codes - no codes set, no check engine light.
Had car towed from the interstate, went to a shop
about 10 miles away. Tried to start car, and it started
right up. Drove car another hour and it died again.
No check engine light, no codes - Waited 20 minutes
and started car again. Fuel pump made a bad, slow
whirring/clicking sound prior to turning the car over.
Car makes it to destination and dies.
Checked all of the diagnostic sockets, no codes set.

There are lots of possibilities, but I am thinking fuel
pump due to the sound of a slow(dying) pump.

Planning on dropping the tank this week and checking
it out - any other ideas out there?

Thanks -
