As I was getting ready to go to the KC Midsommar Meet I hired the lowest
bidder to detail my car. Then I went to fill it with gas and found he had
broken the gas door hinge, as well as another plastic part or two of lesser
consequence. Since it rained during the rally and before the car show, the
detail didn't do a lot of good.......
I bought a new gas door hinge at Superior North Volvo in KC while I was
there at a fairly reasonable price, and within a couple hours of getting
home I put it on. Then I found I couldn't install the gas door!!
So I called Scott in KC (since my 'puter is broke) and asked him about it.
He had apparently done the same thing and after taking the hinge back off
by driving the plastic pins on through, put the door on the hinge and installed
it again, using stainless 1/8" diameter pins 3/8" long.
So I started to do that but didn't have any 1/8" stainless wire. I DID find
some 1/8" diameter pop rivets 3/8" long though. I drove the puller wire out
of them and found that they installed the hinge quite well. I suspect that
one could even tap the center holes and use a small screw to pull them out if
desirable.
