Cleaning the PCV valve in the turbo, should be a regular maintenance item every 25-30k miles, along with flushing the tranny.
I cleaned the valve this past weekend, but I should have done it 3 years ago when I bought the car with 75k miles. I was under the impression that turbos did not have a “flame trap”, until I learned otherwise in this board.
Some observations:
Remove the air cleaner box before you remove the air intake hose to the turbo. DO NOT try to remove the valve from the air intake hose, its impossible.
Before you pull the intake hose up, release the 2 hoses that go to the valve from the 2 “hooks” on the engine block that keep them from moving around. This will give you room to lift and disconnect the hoses from the valve. If you don’t do this the hoses will split in two (they are brittle from age and heat) right by the cam sensor area.
The 2 openings in the valve were plugged with sludge. Area cleaned with TB cleaner and hard wire. This is a good time to check the intake hose for cracks. Put everything back and enjoy.
I swear the car is idling and running better afterwards, but maybe is just me.
