Somthing just blew up. 850 1994

1994 855T, about 130k. Driving home from a movie tonight, I felt the transmission revving too high...I know the car, and it should have shifted...was doing about 40 mph and was revving at close to 5000rpm. I looked behind me, and there was a HUGE cloud of smoke...I thought the car was on fire. I was just getting on the highway, and pulled over as quickly as I could. I got out...the smoke seemed to be coming from only the tailpipe, but I could be wrong. I was about 2 miles from home, so I put the hazards on and limped home. Actually, it seemed to be running fine...engine felt fine, turbo was still working (guage moving, and felt a little boost from the little gas I gave it) and transmission was shifting "normally". After that initial huge cloud for about 30 seconds, the smoke was still definitely present coming from the tailpipe, but not as badly. It looked like there was oil residue on my rear window, but I felt it, and it just felt like water, but it was very sooty and smells bad.

So, the car is parked until I talk to my mechanic Monday.

Funny things is...earlier today, I got an oil change at one of those quick-lube places...I had never been to this particular place before. After 11 miles of driving, this happened. I have my theory about what went wrong, but I just want advice from the BB about what is likely wrong, and what could have caused this. It was running perfectly until this happened.

Thanks,

Nick
