Hello,
I have two questions.
The first question is:
I have a '96 GLT wagon, a 5 speed with 244,000 on the clock. About a year ago, when I went to fill the car with gas, the gas flap would not release. I could hear the "click" of the electric motor coming from all the locks, including the motor that releases the gas tank flap. I removed the rear interior panel and pulled the emergency gas flap spring. It released the gas tank flap and I filled the car. I immediately locked the car, and unlocked it. Now the gas tank flap release worked. I dismissed it as a fluke. Recently, in a period of 6 weeks, the gas flap failed to release twice, and I was forced to manually release it. Once I manually release the gas flap cover, I will then lock the car. Then I will unlock the car and the gas tank flap works perfertly. Any suggestions as to what is causing this intermittent problem, which seems to be growing in frequency?
The second question is:
Discussing another car, also a '96 GLT wagon, 5 speed, with 180,000 on the clock. A few days ago, the seat memory on the driver's seat stopped working. You could manually adjust the seat, but if you tried the memory, the seat would "lurch" slightly and not move. My independent mechanic said the "control" was defective. He said it is the "brain/ecu" of the seat, that remembers the personal seat adjustments. It is a very expense part. While he was trying to locate a used one, the "control" fixed itself. He did nothing to it, but now it works. He has no idea why it has started to work again. Does anyone have any idea? I'm glad it works, but since it is a big ticket repair, I'd like to know why the "control" suddenly stopped working and why? Thanks to all who respond.
Hugh
