I did a little research on what others have done and what parts are available, and I have a few ? (at the bottom of the post) I am hoping someone can answer.
My engine mount torque arm bushing is bad. The one that has the air gaps front and back of the web center that breaks.
The bushing requires a press to replace. Polyurethane bushings are available for around $20 (no press needed) with reported increase in vibration. I saw an aftermarket regular (needs press I assume) for around $9 and we know how they last. It looks like the whole torque arm with bushing is available (OEM) for about $80, and $73+ship from FCP.
After reading the garden mechanic replacement procedure for the OEM bushing, I don't want to bother with it. If it ends up taking 3 hours of frustration, I rather pay a few extra $. I would not like to increase vibration in the car, so I am leaning towards not getting polyurethane. That leaves one option, in my mind. Buy the whole torque arm.
I looked over the torque arm, and I can only see one bolt so far. I can't see the bottom of the arm where it wraps under the distributor (apparently). I trust I can get to the second of two bolts on the engine, but that is a GUESS.
Two questions. Does this look like I have assessed the options correctly, given my restrictions? How easy is it to get the torque arm unbolted from the engine?
