Help with the EGR plumbing (intake removal for PCV service) 850

I posted this on Volvospeed and Matt's Volvo site already, but haven't gotten any answers yet.

Is it safe to strongarm this piece that connects to the EGR valve off of the pipe? It seems like it came off backwards. It turns (with resistance) on the end here, which is how I got it out of the egr valve. The problem is that it seems frozen on the end of the pipe.

I'm curious if this is normal, or why it'd be stuck on here. I sprayed it with PB blaster and it's sitting, but it was showing no signs of wanting to relent.
