Hello everyone.

We have a 2000 V70 XC AWD with around 120k miles on it. Last week it developed a power steering leak. We brought it to our independant shop today (Eurotech Autowerks in Virginia Beach, VA). They are telling us that the car needs a new steering rack which they can get from the dealer rebuilt for $800 ($1,050 with labor). I asked what he thought the problem with the current one is and he said it is leaking, probably a bad seal somewhere. I asked if just the seal could be replaced but he said no - there are no kits available. Now, I trust these guys a lot due to past work and they have a good reputation, however, I am having a hard time grasping that a rubber seal is going to cost us $800. Does anyone know if there any other options available for us or do we need to simply bite the bullet?
