Rear seat hear rest S60 2001

Love my 2001 S60 except that rear seat head rest creates two really large blind spots when using the rear view mirror. Unfortunately my model does not have to tilt head rests. Does anyone have experience removing these head rests. The risk of being rear ended is smaller than the risk of not seeing some in the blind spots.
