Once you switch to Mobil 1, can you go by to Dino oil? 850 1996

Hello All,

A friend whose knowledge of cars is considerable, told me that once you switch from petroleum based motor oil to synthetic, such as Mobil 1, you cannot return to petroleum based motor oils. Is that true? If it is, what would happen if you do? Thanks to all who reply in advance?
