timing belt question

my 2000 C-70 is starting to get up there in miles (95,000) and I've heard I should have timing belt replaced at about 100,000. Is this right? And what can I expect this job to cost me. I have a mechanic not the dealer? Anyway, is this a job that needs to be done immediately and if its not done now will it cause mechanical damage? Appreciate any information you guys have as I always ask here and get great help. Thanks
