License Plate Holder Removal

My wife and I moved to Indianapolis and in Indiana they do not require a front license plate. The problem is on my wife's 2001 S40, she has the ugly license plate holder riveted to the bumper and I do not know how I should go about removing it. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

It is nice on my 99 BMW 540i Sport, that in the bumper there are rubber grommets that can be popped out for screws to put on a regular U.S. plate or for a Euro plate. So I put on a Euro plate and it looks really nice and flush with the bumper.
