passing gear S70

I have a 1999 S70. I'm having trouble with passing gear. When the engine is cold or just warm, I have it. When the engine is good and warm (after about 20 miles) I can't get into passing gear. My mechanic dosen't think it's the transmission, he thinks it has something to do with the sensor for airflow into the turbo.

Has anyone have any thoughts on this or has experienced this.....
