1996 Volvo 850 Wagon Non Turbo Runs Rough & STALLS 850 1996

My 1996 non turbo wagon ran rough and sometimes would not start with no codes returned. I changed the plugs,cap,rotor,Maf,cleaned the throttle body anf all intake components to no avail and still no codes.I then noticed while running it smoke coming for underneath the vehicle. My cat was cherry red / clogged. I am now ready to install a new cat. Does anyone have any other cures for my problem? What else if you know causes a cat to become clogged. Approx. 8 months ago i had replaced a defective ECT
