I just bought a 96 850 turbo wagon from a private party--drove it twice for about 30 minutes each time. I did big repairs on it--shop had it one week (tune up, timing belt/water pump, strut mount bushings, turbo gasket seal leak, engine mounts). Got it back--drives like butter. BUT suddenly the ABS/TRACS light came on when the brakes suddenly did this weird shudder when I pressed on them. Since then, the lights come on intermittently--usually without the shudder, and only once again have I felt the 'shudder'. Then the odometer stopped working. When I press on the brakes it sounds like someone blowing air out of a small tube--maybe this is normal, I don't know. This all happened within the span of the past 5 days.
It also pulls to the right--this I noticed when I bought it and assumed it was out of alignment since the new tires only have 3k miles on them. The shop did an alignment--which didn't fix the problem. They said it was probably the tires--is this possible with only 3k on them?
I read thru the archives about Victor Rocha etc., and the shop said I could give them $80 for an ABS diagnostics test to see if it is the ABS module failing. I'd like to avoid that if possible--is this something a shop could have either purposely or inadvertantly caused while doing my repairs??
Is it difficult to fix the odometer alone--I read how a part can be ordered and there are instructions on how to do it. I'm pretty much a novice...if I'm careful do you guys recommend I try it (it would be nice to save the $500 I was quoted!!).
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!
