Oh Nooo....Transmission Burnt 850

Wife's 93 850 w/119K came home on a wrecker 2 weeks ago today. Car had no forward or reverse, was very hot, & A/T fluid was blackened. I've been using the drain/fill & inline filter service annually for the last 3 years/40k miles. I'm basically trying to research my options:
1. Dealer fix - NOT!$$$$
2. Local shop perform A/T flush and see if it helps
3. If flush doesn't help, buy junkyard or rebuilt tranny???
4. Pull A/T, buy rebuild kit & rebuild it myself.
5. Sell for parts on ebay??
I have a pretty well equipped shop w/lift and not afraid to tackle a rebuild if I don't have to buy any high dollar tools. She has a minivan to drive so I can take some time if need be.
Anybody here been down this road? How complex a job would this be? Where can I get information on how to tear it down & rebuild?
The wife really likes this car and my parents bought it brand new in 1993 in Dallas TX but it has really begun to hundred dollar me to death in the last year or so!!
Thanks for input
John
