wheel options for '97 850R wagon?? do 17's give a crappy ride? 850 1997

ok.. my new to me '97 850R wagon is currently riding on 16" five spoke "persus" alloys that were commonly used on the '96-97 turbos..

my R wagon apparently came new with the smoke grey seven spoke 17" alloys which were exclusive to the R's.. but somewhere along the line they were removed and the 16" alloys installed..

i have heard horror stories about how the 17"s bend, crack, and because of the R's already stiff suspension, give an awful ride... is this true? im wondering if the former owner removed the 17's and installed the 16's to give a easier ride..??

do 17's really give that crappy of a ride?
i was considering switching back to the 17's, maybe some T-5R 17" titans, or some new 17" pegasus "R" wheels which are on the new S60R's.. would the 17's from a '07 S60R work well on my '97 850R? anyone have some titans or pegasus R wheels they want to sell? or am i better off just sticking with the 16's??

any help would be appreciated...
