Fun trip! V70-XC70 2001

Couple weeks ago I got an itch and started looking at the ads for a V70.
Found a likely candidate at Gorges Volvo in Omaha. My friends Bob and Lily
live in Lincoln and bought a car through that agency, delivered in Sweden and
now on its way home. I e-mailed them and asked if they were going to Omaha,
could they look at it and maybe drive it around. Next day I got an e-mail
back from them saying that they were indeed going to Omaha. Bob called me
the following morning from Gorges, and though it was pretty early, he'd already
checked it out and found it to be very nice and a good performer. So I called
up Gorges and made the deal and became the proud owner of a green 2001 V70 T5.
To fly from here to Omaha in the morning I had to fly to Dallas first (?) but
got in at about 2:40 in the afternoon last Thursday. Signed the papers, got the
service records and was on my way by about 4, headed north to South Dakota to see
my dear friend Kent, who is getting out of the 164 business, and offered me a
good deal on some parts to spiff up my dear old 164 (mine since 1971) which has
gotten kinda ragged in the door interior panels, etc. I arrived there at about 8,
my first time ever in the Dakotas. Next morning I carefully removed the parts I
needed, getting done by about noon. After lunch I took off for home, stopping
to see the National Musical Museum in Vermillion, SD. If you have ANY interest
in music or musical instruments or their history, this place is WELL worth your
time to visit, the folks are very friendly, and they give you a little player with
headphones so you can listen to commentary and music from many of the instruments
exhibited. (Some of them are pretty strange!) I finished the museum at closing
time and took off south on I-29, getting to Omaha about 7:30. I ate and spent the
night there and took off a little after 8 in the morning, Saturday. Got to
Superior Volvo North in KC, from which I called Scott at about 11 AM.
He and his DW came over to see the car, then I took off for home and made it in
at about 4:30 after stopping to gas up and wash the car. So now it will be
MUCH easier to carry my upright bass and whatever other big things show up.
(Gotta get those two 122 wagons, the Yellow Peril and Susan's wagon fixed...
That was the easy shortcut, other than the $$$.)
The above goes to show that COMMUNITY is of great value. Thanks, friends!

BTW I tried to upload a couple pix of the beauty but was foiled by a server
error. I'll post them when I can.
