ABS problems and symptoms 850 1997

Ok, I realize that the most cost affective solution it to send out my controller and have it repaired for the 140 dollars. The thing I'd like to know is how do you know this is in fact the issue. Since the troubles with my system keep changing. First it started out with lights coming on and the system intermittantly applying abs pulsating when its not needed. Now the lights remain off but at odd times when appplying the brakes, it intermittantly applies abs pulsating, makes the brakes feel uneffective, requires a lot of presssure to brake safely. I read about issues with the pump assembly, what are symtoms of this failure? Is it always the controller? Right now I have the pump motor fuse removed, and the system seems to work great, except no ABS, brakes feel normal again, and I still have a speedometer. So if someone could point me to a troubleshooting guide, so I can determine which part of the system is at fault, I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and I need to link to the man who rebulds the controller and the link for the bay 13 garage, I think, that site has lots of great AWD info!!!
Thanks
Chuck Jaxel, wanting an ABS system that works like my 240s and 940s!!!
